670km for the Marginalized Majority
This October, Professor S. Caroline Taylor AM and a group of survivor advocates will walk 670km from Melbourne to Parliament House in Canberra.
The walk is both symbolic and strategic. Caroline will sleep rough by the roadside to honour the loneliness, homelessness and abandonment so many survivors face after disclosure.
Caroline is Australia’s leading publicly identified survivor advocate. A survivor of intrafamilial child sexual abuse, she has spent more than 30 years demanding justice, shaping law reform, training police and prosecutors, and rebuilding systems so children are believed and protected.
In 2025, Caroline was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive and incurable cancer.
In January 2026, she received a terminal diagnosis.
She has been clear: the walk must proceed, even if she cannot complete it.
As the world looks to Australia for leadership on child safety, this journey is a call to confront the most hidden and uncomfortable form of violence against children: intrafamilial sexual abuse.

Intrafamilial child sexual abuse has never been the focus of a Royal Commission — in Australia or anywhere in the world.
The landmark Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse changed laws and systems, but it explicitly excluded abuse within families.
Survivors of intrafamilial abuse are often silenced, stigmatized, disbelieved, and in some cases legally forced into ongoing contact with offenders.
They are the marginalized majority.
A Royal Commission into Intrafamilial Child Sexual Abuse would expose the full scale of abuse within families, examine how laws and services fail, and put survivor voices at the centre of national reform.
